Following many years of extensive luxury travel and residency in the world's leading vacation destinations, we've founded VillaVantage.com out of a desire to expand on the typical travel arrangement and push the envelope on luxury and traveler experience. Our own experience with luxury villa travel and the associated nuances led us to this vision: a resource for unbiased information related to all aspects of villa travel.
We have come to discover that villa travel is nothing like hotel/resort travel and requires a very different research and planning strategy. Typically, a villa traveler is not a "tourist". A villa traveler is usually someone who has had their fill of hotel/motel/resort travel and is seeking something extraordinary from their travel experience. A villa traveler appreciates the art of making choices and the ability to customize their vacation so that it suits their very specific desires and needs. Villa travelers enjoy control over their environment, opportunity to define their space, identifying their own level of luxury and making careful choices so that the experience is tailored to all members of their party, both individually and collectively.
Villa travel is HOT, HOT, HOT these days and is the inspiration for and focus of the new television show “Around the World in 80 Homes”, featured on the Fine Living Network. The abundance of villa choices will send some would-be villa travelers for a loop. We’ve heard from many travelers who have simply selected a random villa because they were tired of searching multiple travel websites for reviews, comparing villas sourced from dozens of agents, etc. There are literally thousands of agents advertising villas for rent and the level of offerings ranges from the extreme luxury of a fully-staffed cliff-side mansion overlooking a private beach to a tiny tree-cottage in a remote jungle without electricity – and everything in between (including some villas you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy). How do you know what you’re getting? Is the agent reputable? Does the agent discriminate against less than luxurious properties or will they rent just about anything with four walls? Is the description accurate? Do you trust the pictures? Was the villa professionally “staged” for the pictures (term for furniture and amenities rented for the purpose of taking pictures, but not representative of the villa’s current state)? Has the villa been through a hurricane or other disaster since the pictures were taken? Has the owner of a large, luxury “looking” villa skimped on linens or furnishings, making your stay less comfortable than what you enjoy in your very own home? Is the neighborhood as beautiful as the villa? Is there a new villa under construction next door (noise!)? Does the A/C really cool the property? There are literally hundreds of important questions to consider when renting a villa….and we work to gather and organize the answers from travelers who have been there and from our own extensive research, with the help of local representatives who visit these villas specifically to gather data for this website.
